Appearance Physical Appearance
Badr stands around 5ft 10" tall, and his skin is well tanned. He has a mane of dark black hair, and at one point had dark brown eyes - these are lost now. His face is a veritable map of scars, one running vertically down crossing where his left eye once sat, marred only by signs of burnt flesh. His right ear has three rings in it, one in the lobe two through the cartilage of the ear. His nose is sharp, and he seems to still have the ability to be looking down it in disdain or disgust at someone doing something he does not approve of.
His build is lithe but muscular, with broad shoulders. His back is a mass of scars from the various whippings he's taken - both punishment for transgressions by the assassins or under torture when he was caught by templars during moments of indisgression and tortured for information - never giving it.
Being a left handed swordsman its his right hand that has the missing ring finger and it is on his right side that his hidden blade sits.
Attire
Badr typically wears white robes as his lowest layer, with dark brown soft leather boots, a red sash and a dark brown belt over that. His hair is frequently hidden under a Keffiyeh, and when travelling he will often pull a tail over his mouth and nose to protect against dust. He also wears a blindfold over his eyes to hide the scars.
Over the white robes he wears a dark black longer robe that's left open. This robe is slitted in four places in the back, folds of fabric concealed beneath to allow him to sit astride his mare when riding messenger duty. This robe also covers his sword, without he's expecting trouble in which case he will ride with it pushed to sit beneath the scabbard of his sword. Distinguishing Features
Varying scars, missing the ring finger on his right hand, three piercings on his right ear - one in the lobe two in cartlige
Personality and History Key Traits
Reserved, Bristly, Loyal
Personality
Badr upon first meeting him frequently comes across as bristlier then a threatened porcupine, doing all in his power to drive those who would wish to be his friends away. He is deeply suspicious of just about everyone, and it takes time for him to warm up to a person and trust them.
He is also highly opinionated, and isn't above making his opinions known, most the time very bluntly. A large fan of stating his opinion of you - even more so if he has a low one, he can be a harsh critic, this is more due to a wish for a brother or sister to not be killed in action more then a wish to belittle them.
To those few who worm their way into becoming his friend Badr is exceptionally loyal, willing to take punishment for a friend if he personally deems they have done no wrong, or the punishment is unjust. He is also willing to risk his own life and safety to defend either civilians or other individuals whom he views as innocent from injustice, even if he does not know them. He will not accept thanks for this however, as he views this solely as a part of doing his duty, and of obeying the creed.
Backstory
Badr was born during the time of the crusades in the Holy Lands. He was son of the then Sheikh Sherif of a desert based Bedouin Tribe. The tribe themselves at that point were an offshoot of the assassins of Masyaf. Growing up was a struggle, but it was a life Badr grew to love. This all changed on his 14th year of life. The Templars came out of nowhere. The last words he had with his father was an oath. An oath to avenge his tribes destruction, not to rest until he had wiped out those who had wiped his tribe out. Little did he know how strictly he would be held to those words.
Swiftly bundled onto one of their fiercest war mares, and the mare driven away with a slap to the rump, he was forced to leave his home. He paused atop a dune, slipping off to look back, a finger carelessly hooked through the war mares halter. He nearly paid for that carelessness with his life. Fajera - as the mare was known - twisted, his finger getting trapped between the halter and her jawbone. The finger was broken, the a sharpened shard of bone breaking through the skin. A sound of armoured men approaching caused him to scrabble on the war mares back and urge her away over the sands.
Initially his instincts were just to flee, any direction. Then the fever started to take hold. So it was that he has no concious memory of how he arrived at Masyaf, and all he was told by those tending him when he woke up was his horse was smart, and vicious. Initially panicked he relaxed as the information started to reach his brain that these weren't templars, that he was safe. His first question was to ask where he was. As he heard Masyaf he passed into sleep once more.
Life settled into a pattern then, he looked after his mare, focused on his training, and rose up the ranks. As soon as he could he went out riding with a group of assassins to his old tribe lands. There he found the remnants of the tribe herds of horses. Determined to save their bloodlines, something else to steal back from the templars, he rounded up as many as he could manage, bringing them with him back to Masyaf. Al Mualim wasn't best pleased, however he could see a use for them. The horses after all were tough, and fast. So it was they were allowed to stay, to help improve the Masyaf stock. Time passed, and Badr became a master assassin himself. He worked missions, killing the templars with a ruthless efficiency, his new war mare - one he'd bred himself this time focusing on intelligence, aggression and loyalty - fighting alongside him. It didn't take long for her bad temper and a tendency to seem to enjoy kicking at anyone who wasn't Badr, and apparent desire to bite just about anyone she took offence to brought about the first of many rumours. This one being that she'd developed an appetite for human flesh.
Yet more time passed, and Badr took his first - and only - novice under his wing to train. It was during their fourth mission out that he found out her betrayal the hard way. She led him directly into a Templar ambush, one that left him blinded in one eye and bleeding heavily. Instincts kicked in as he fled, a trail of blood left behind until he removed his Keffiyeh to press against the wound as he leapt into a roof top garden. He listened as the templars ran passed, listening as they fanned out to hunt for him, his vision starting to darken around the edges. It was with great force of will that he forced himself out once the coast was clear, getting to the Jerusalem Bureau and passing out, falling into the courtyard.
Under the cover of darkness he was removed, his wound having been treated as best as possible, taken back to Masyaf to recover, his war mare following uninstructed. With his dominant eye blinded however his depth perception was ruined to the point he could no longer use throwing knives with accuracy. So it was he was reassigned a role as a messenger.
Around this point Amir appeared, the young boy managing to worm his way past Badrs walls of protection and past the instinct to push everyone away. If only by the fact every time he had to go on a messengers mission the coal tit was always there to wish him a good journey - racing frantically over the rooftops of Masyaf to get to the village gates in time - and would often be waiting by the gates for him to return.
Life settled into a rhythm following these events, until he was caught in Alamut, during the time of Abbas' deception, by Templars. It was then he was left fully blinded as they burnt out both eyes in a futile attempt to force him to speak. One that didn't work. He was rescued by Amir, who had led a group of assassins who were still loyal to Altair at that point to retrieve him, and had brought Badr's breeding stock with him. The two fled Masyaf before its final downfall, travelling together. Amir acting as Badr's guide, the two becoming closer.
Finally they wound up in Italy, and purely by accident stumbled upon Monteriggioni. They were welcomed by Mario who offered them sanctuary, and even helped to select two hounds to serve as guides for Badr. The very first two dogs to be called Bourkan and Assad. Chaos soon struck again however, and once more they were left wandering.
They have since wandered throughout all of Europe, and Great Britain, moving on to avoid the Templars hounding them. It was with much persistence, and logic that even Badr couldn't manoeuvre round that Amir pursuaded them onto a ship bound to the New World, to the United States of America. Partly in hope that the Templars wouldn't be there - or at least that's what Amir had told Badr. Suffice to say Badr was less then impressed when he discovered the truth. Still the two travellers brought their horses onwards towards Davenport Homestead, hoping to find some place of solace, Amir guiding - Badr content to allow Fajera to follow his lead.
