Anya Marie Adler
Scarlet Wren | --
Basics White Assassin Female Heterosexual Twenty-six (26) years Berlin Journeyman -- -- English, German; knows a touch of French, Russian, Spanish, and Arabic (though its not enough to hold a conversation) Pagan, borderline Atheist
Appearance Physical Appearance
Anya stands around 5'7" and has an average build with a pale complexion. She likes to keep her reddish-brown hair long and free, though, when the need arises, she will tie it back. Her hazel eyes seem knowing and, at times, intense even while her expression remains neutral. She has a square face with high cheekbones; full, red lips; and a straight nose. Her posture seems rigid, as though she expects an attack at any moment; she is typically seen with her arms crossed with her gaze in the distance. Attire
Presently, she wears the robes she had from her time in England; they are dark blue with a red sash and a touch of red within the folds of her robes. Her hair is typically tied back while she dons her hood. She wears a few amulets, though they are nothing of any value. Anya also wears her engagement ring; a garnet poison ring Daniel gave her, as a reminder to herself. Distinguishing Features
One of the first things most people notice is her hair and her freckles, not to mention her pale complexion. On her back, if you ever get that close, is a mole and a birthmark on her right ankle. She has a few old scars from her childhood and a few fresh ones from a few years ago. The one on her neck, though small, and the one on her right hand are the most likely to be seen.
Personality and History Key Traits
Distrustful - Ambitious - Fearless
Personality
Trust is a word that is not in her dictionary, at least, not anymore. It takes her a great deal of time before she can consider someone a friend and, even then, she won't fully trust them. When it comes to new people, she comes across as cold and standoffish, only engaging in conversation when its necessary. However, she is more likely to talk to someone who is younger than herself. When it comes to achieving a goal, Anya is relentless. She will fight tooth and nail to accomplish whatever it is...but it has to be something that she wants. She will work hard on her missions, but she becomes feverishly ambitious if it benefits her in some way. Once you get past all of her blockades, it is apparent that Anya is intelligent. Perhaps not genius level, but she is one who enjoys pursuing discussions and deep conversations. Anya is also one who enjoys reading novels and various accounts. Its not uncommon that she will pilfer documents, books, and other such things. Knowledge, to Anya, is more valuable than gold; she loves to learn, and a few have remarked that it is frightening how much she has come to learn on her own. While she may be a bit of a loner, she does lavish being around those she considers her friends, even if they are few and far between. It is also easy to see that Anya loves going for rides and will never turn down the chance to race Hadi with another horse. She has a fondness for all furry things, though she isn't nearly as fond of cats. Honesty comes to her naturally, but one should be weary of asking for it from her, as she can be blunt.
Backstory
Anya was a surprise to her parents, who were both Assassins of the Berlin bureau. Upon realizing that she was pregnant, her mother retired as an Assassin and threatened her father that if he ever trained their baby to be an Assassin, she would "make it so his ancestors would rue this day." Her mother became even more strict about this rule when she learned that her baby was a girl. But Anya's father had other ideas and was well known for disregarding orders he didn't feel were to his standards. So, without her mother's knowledge, Anya was trained as an Assassin, just as her grandfather had trained her father. Speaking of which, when her paternal grandfather learned of her lessons, he decided to teach her what he knew about survival in the wilderness, citing that an Assassin never knew when they would have to disappear. Anya trained until it was time for her to join and, only then, did her mother learn of her education. Much to everyone's happiness, Anya's father did survive.
Anya came to love being an Assassin and slowly ascended the ranks, happily accepting new missions and finding she had a fondness for gathering information. She studied beneath her father and grandfather, accompanying them on their missions, and learned everything she could from other members of the bureau. Another individual came into her life, a man by the name of Daniel Adler, another Assassin only four years older than herself. Needless to say, the two formed a connection and the two eloped when Anya was sixteen (16). The two spent the next four years traveling Europe, aiding other bureaus and taking up missions as they needed. At this time, Anya came across a man attempting to sell a pure black colt. It was apparent that the foal had been stolen and, though the man claimed that he came from an exceptional line of an exceptional and rare breed, many people were discouraged by the colt's color and inward turned ears. Realizing that he would not sell the colt, he decided he would destroy it. Anya attempted to purchase the colt, but the man demanded a high price for a colt that could barely tolerate a lead and lashed out at anyone who came close to him. As Anya puts it, she exchanged some "friendly" words and a "promise" before the man decided that he probably wouldn't be able to make anything off the colt and accepted her offer. Needless to say, Daniel was rather shocked by the newcomer to the family, but he happily accepted and helped her to train the horse.
Daniel and Anya decided to settle down in England; Daniel semiretired from the Assassins, though he would sometimes aid in missions. Anya continued her career, swearing she would never retire...well, at least until she learned she was pregnant. Fearing Anya would hurt herself, Daniel begged her to do as he had done and leave the group until she had the baby. Anya agreed, but only in a manner of speaking; she never left the group and continued her contact and missions as she had. At the same time, the two became more acquainted with those outside of the Assassins and made friends with their neighbor, Thomas Warner, and his wife. While Thomas and Daniel grew close, Anya struggled to become friends with his wife, Esther, who would always make snide remarks about Anya. In fact, a month after Anya learned of her pregnancy, she miscarried; Esther made a cruel remark about the fact, causing Anya to refuse to speak to either of them again. After this incident, Anya spent more time taking missions, causing her relationship with Daniel to become strained.
In the winter after she turned twenty-two (22), Anya returned from a mission that took her a little longer than normal for her to complete. While her and Daniel had gotten closer since her miscarriage, neither one spoke again of having more children and had both come to an understanding. When Anya returned, she found her husband dead in their home and a message stating that if she returned, she would suffer the same fate. With the aid of the Assassins, she held a funeral for her husband and openly continued in her day to day tasks, quietly gathering information as to who was behind her husband's murder. A week after his funeral, Anya was sitting in her home, repairing Hadi's tack when a bullet shattered her window, barely missing her head. Realizing they had failed, the murder broke into her house and attacked her. Anya fought him with all her strength, but he overpowered her and pinned her to the ground using a dagger to hold her right hand in place. It was then that Anya realized that her husband's friend was both his murderer and a Templar agent. Distraught, Anya found strength and managed to pull the dagger out from her hand and injure Thomas enough to send him fleeing. Between the pain, blood loss, and betrayal, Anya passed out as she watched him escape. When she awoke, she burned her home to the ground and set off to find Thomas to get revenge. It took her four years to hunt him down, but she successfully ended him and decided to go to America with Hadi to start anew. She landed on the shores only a few days ago...
